Chicken Pox is a viral infection caused by varicella zoster virus (VZV) which is a highly contagious illness. This is becoming less common because most children now receive the chicken pox vaccine. My little boy who is turning three this October is sick with chicken pox. Two days ago I have noticed some symptoms that it could possibly be chicken pox.
Symptoms of Chicken Pox:
- have a prodrome of fever, malaise, headache, lack of appetite, and mild abdominal pain for 1 to 2 days
- sore throat, pain in both ears, complaints of pressure in head or swollen face.
- first symptom in children is usually the development of a papular rash, followed by the development of discomfort, fever (38 degrees or in 42 degrees celsius in rare cases) and anorexia.
- the fever that could lasts about 2 to 4 days
The symptoms that I have posted above are some of the symptoms that I have observed with my little boy in his first three days. Two days ago he complaints about sore throat and mild abdominal pains. On the second day, I noticed a papular rash that I was thinking that it could be warts but I examined it carefully and found out that it was blister. Today is the third day and I have noticed the occurrences of these blisters on any part of his body like face, legs, stomach and back. It is not too many compared to the usual photos that I have seen but I think it will multiply in the succeeding days. Thank God that he does not have fever but I think there is a little time when he has low fever.

I’ve probably gone through all the childhood diseases like measles in my time. The children of today are less prone to that because of the vaccinations.

Get well soon to your little boy! I think I never had chicken pox before. For some reason, I didn’t get infected when my sister had one when we were kids.

I had chicken pox when I was 5 I think. It is important that you also isolate the things your boy uses to prevent the spread of the virus. 🙂
I hope he gets well soonest! 🙂

Honestly, I don’t experience this kind of illness. My two kids have already experience this and I am still wondering why I don’t have like this. Even my mom tell me that I got vaccinated with Anti-chickenpox twice when I am still a baby for me it is not a guarantee that I am safe.
You can still get chickenpox if you have been vaccinated against the disease.

I had chicken pox when I was in college and blisters appeared on my whole body. There’s no available medications yet for it unlike these days where there are immunizations and even medicine when you have it already =)

I had chicken pox in my teenage years because of my curiosity that my cousin had this so I was there in their house staying at her side so later on I developed and got it.

I was able to witness my niece get chicken pox just last year.. I remember my beau not staying at our house for more than a month since he was afraid that he’d catch the virus from her. He believes that he has never gotten chicken pox (ever, even as a kid), and is afraid of getting sterile when he does get infected.. 🙁

get well soon to your little. i wonder if it’s true, but based on my observation, when you had your chicken pox when you were younger (like you were 7 yo and below) scars fade easily. well… just based on observation. there are plenty of anti-viral drugs now though.

Ugh, I went through all of this on the first day of school a long while ago. I had it the latest in my entire batch, at 17 years old! It took MUCH longer to heal (almost a month) and my nickname for the duration of that school year was “Cookie”.
If only there was a way to ‘force’ it to be caught earlier, right? Haha

🙂 .. My hubby is already mid 20’s when he experience chicken pox and I think it is better if you caught it early.

vaccination against chicken pox can be a good way of preventing the disease. Even that though it is not an assurance that you won’t get Varicella.

I had chicken pox before when I was in high school and is it really true that if you already got one you will not be getting another one?

My second child got this last year and after a week, my youngest who was then 2 yrs old acquired it from his Kuya. But my eldest daughter who is 16 never had this chicken pox and she’s afraid that she may get it at an older age when scars will not heal fast.

very informative..especially to those who are immuno-compromised or pregnant women, getting exposed to this very infectious virus is dangerous. Yahweh bless.
