The master bedroom design by Yvette and Sonia

November 4, 2013 Leave a Comment

Last month, I published about “The master bedroom designs from the Apartment contestants“. The master bedroom design by Yvette and Sonia is the winning design in episode 1. I am thankful that I was able to asked more about what they did with their master bedroom design. I need to catch up on more episodes because I am interested with the upcoming designs and excited to learn more.

When asked about the design that Yvette and Sonia did, here’s a quick paragraph about their master bedroom design:

The master bedroom was an extremely tough challenge mainly because we were venturing into the unknown. We didn’t know how long it would take us to shop and then put the room together. We were also thinking more in terms of look and feel rather than prioritizing functionality. It’s funny how when in the heat of the moment you can miss the obvious and big things… Ahem wardrobe! Although, in our defense we did have full intention of creating an “exposed” wardrobe – to hang our clothes on display like a high end shop. Read on my blog why this didn’t work (in part because of a curtain hook issue): http://www.tanjongbazaar.com/2013/09/the-apartment-episode-one-master-bedroom/.
I can see why the other teams went for purple but for, us romance meant things like comfort, coziness, rounded edges and of course Paris! I personally loved our feature piece which was our huge vintage chair. No one knows what trouble we went to source that from this random thrift store and squeeze it into our van! It was honestly like tetris trying to get that chair in the vehicle! But so worth it. Most of the furniture can from Viva Mall – bed, dressing table, chest of drawers x2, bed side table, pendant lights, ghost chair. Then the faux wall moulding was made from Ikea frames. What I like about their design is that it looks like you are in a royal bedroom. The combination of brown and white feels so homey for me and neat.
