3 Tips On Keeping Small Apartments Looking Great

March 10, 2015 Leave a Comment

For whatever reason, sometimes it feels like it’s harder to keep a small apartment looking cleaner than it is to keep a large home looking tidy. Perhaps it’s because there never seems to be enough storage space or perhaps it’s just one of those strange things that can’t be explained. Whatever the reason, there are indeed some tips and techniques you can use to keep your tiny space looking wonderful. Here are three tips on keeping small apartments looking great.

Keep Floors As Clean As Possible

When you’re in a larger space, it’s a tad easier to get away with a few stains or unwashed areas on the floor. However, in a small space, stains and dirty areas really pop out. If you have hardwood floors, be sure to sweep daily and mop weekly. For carpet, vacuum at least twice a week for great results. If your carpet has stains, consider investing in special cleaning, such as professional rug cleaning Brooklyn services.

Learn To Store Smart

Having a place to store and organize all of your belongings is absolutely essential in a small apartment. If your small apartment didn’t come with a lot of closet or cabinet space, then you might be smart to invest in some inexpensive storage items, such as rolling drawer units or clothing racks. It’s incredibly easy for small spaces to look cluttered. Hence, it’s important that every item in your home has a designated place and is kept there.

De-Clutter As Often As Possible

Clutter can really ruin the overall look and feel of a small apartment. If you have items that you haven’t used in a long time, it might be smart to consider finally letting them go once and for all. Once a month, really take time to survey all of your belongings and decide if certain items really need to be there. Rarely will you regret tossing something out; if anything, you’ll just regret all the time you spent hanging on to an item that you were never going to use.

Small apartments can feel cramped. However, if you really strive to keep everything neat, clean and organized, your tiny space will feel a lot freer. Stay on top of those mundane chores and don’t be afraid to toss things out. The minimalist approach is best when you’re not working with a lot of space.
