Did you know that Global toilet sanitation problem leads to 443 million missed school days? This is according to a study conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO). Children around the world miss an estimated 443 million school days each year because of diseases caused by poor sanitation and hygiene practices, including using unsanitary toilets. As a mom with a grade school son, I do not want him to be absent in school just because of certain diseases. It will affect his health and learning. With this awareness, let us know more about it and how to support the #1MCleanToilets Movement.
More of #1MCleanToilets Movement: The number of sick days mentioned is equivalent to all grade school and high school classrooms in the Philippines being empty for one month. This sanitation-related concern hinders the children’s learning and significantly reduces their quality of life. What are the illnesses due to poor sanitation? With poor sanitation, a person might experience diarrhoea disease and parasitic worm infections which can lead to nutritional deficiencies, physical and mental stunting, and the worst is death. Imagine, every day millions of children in rural communities and urban households nationwide are exposed to these health problems by using dirty toilets populated by disease-carrying germs.
How to prevent the spread of germs in toilet? It should be proper toilet sanitation. In toilet cleaning, using ordinary laundry bleach to clean toilet bowls is not enough to kill all toilet germs. This is according to Dr. Luisa Efren of the Philippine Public Health Association (PPHA).
“A toilet that looks clean to the naked eye may not necessarily be free from germs and bacteria. So, it is very important to properly sanitize all surfaces using a germ-kill expert with proven efficacy in eliminating bacteria, and not just any ordinary laundry bleach,” Dr. Efren warned.
The One Million Clean Toilets Movement is organized by Unilever Philippines through its germ-kill expert brand Domex working with UNICEF and PPHA for the past three years. This advocacy program aims to educate Filipinos on proper toilet hygiene and the need for sanitized household toilets to keep their families safe against disease-causing germs.
In support to World Toilet Day 2015 on November 13, let us join the #1MCleanToilets Movement in the fight against disease causing germs to save lives, one clean toilet at a time.
Let us help the 1 Million Clean Toilets Movement fight against disease by spreading awareness on the sanitation issue caused unsanitary toilets. Watch and Share “Sick Days” video below to help keep your family and friends germ-free.

what i love about domex is that it doesnt have that strong scent compared to muriatic acid, which was often used by my mother for cleaning toilets. i can use it without opening the toilet doors and still wont feel dizzy while doing the chore.

Hi Grace,
I agree. My mom-in-law who is allergic to strong odor is also using Domex when cleaning our toilet and I do not hear any complain from her.

I’m very particular when it comes to toilet sanitation. At home, I make sure to sanitize our toilet seat after every use. I hope they’re also doing that in malls, schools, churches, etc. so that all of us are protected from disease-causing germs.
