Remarkably, she deserves a space in my blog. I have watched her stories when she just started out her passion in weightlifting. She is truly passionate and focus about her goal. She is an inspiration to each and every one of us. I just imagine how hardworking and discipline, Hidilyn is.
She started being second to last in a field of 12 weightlifters during the 2008 Summer Olympics, and “Did not finish” (DNF) in the event of the 2012 Summer Olympics.
In the Asian Weightlifting Championships, Diaz copped a gold medal in 2015 in 1st Southeast Asian Weightlifting Championship in Bangkok and a bronze medal in 2016. She won bronze medal in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics in the 53kg women’s weightlifting category.
Diaz joined in the women’s 53 kg event in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. She won Philippines’ first gold in the 2018 Asian games.
She also won a silver in the 2019 Asian Championship, and another gold in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in Manila.
Then in 2020, Diaz won the gold medal in the women’s 55kg event at the Roma 2020 World Cup in Rome, Italy. Amazing!
Have you watched her winning moment? After the trending series of appreciation of her winning, I wonder how did she make it? The 30-year-old set an Olympic record, lifting a combined weight of 224 kilograms, to clinch the top spot in the women’s 55-kg class in Tokyo.

How did she win gold at the Tokyo Olympic 2020 weightlifting? I think it was all about love and determination. She is a real goal finisher! Watching her interviews and videos, I am certain that she has a pure heart.
