Home Extension Progress: Stairs Ideas

June 4, 2022 Leave a Comment

I know you are one of the people who are looking forward to seeing the completion of our home extension. It has been a while since I posted the progress of the construction. How do we come up with the stairs ideas or stair design?

Stairs Plan

Just a recap, the home extension project began last January 8, 2022. You can view the start of the project at Home Extension Project 2022 . It is followed by Home Extention Progress Second Floor Slab where you can see the ongoing progress. Then the latest published on February 22, 2022 was Home Extension Progress: Third Floor and Roof Deck .

That was more than three months past. Fast-forward.

What are the improvements on the project after three months? After the construction of the third-floor slab and roof deck, the construction works focus on installing concrete hollow blocks, plastering, and preparing the place for windows and doors. They also set the electrical and water connection.

Building the stairs is the challenging part of the construction. Since we have a high ceiling, I told our contractor to use standard measurements. I wanted stairs to be comfortable for all ages. They checked our stairs from the ground to the second floor. These stairs will connect from the second floor to the third floor.

RA 6541: National Building Code of the Philippines

Stairs and Ramps. The requirements in this Code shall apply to all stairs and ramps except for portions that pass through the seating area.

5.1. Stair Rise and Run. The maximum rise of treads shall not exceed 20 centimeters (8 inches) and the minimum width of the run shall be 28 centimeters (11 inches). The maximum variations in the width of treads in any one flight shall be not more than 5 millimeters (3/16 inch) and the maximum variation in the height of two adjacent rises shall not exceed 5 millimeters (3/16 inch).

The photo above is our actual stairs. The stairs ideas are hardwood plank on concrete.  Currently, we are waiting for the finishing of the third floor, then they will install the stairs and will polish everything. On the walls of the stairs, there are five windows. This will allow natural light and air to pass through.

Stay tuned for more progress as we are approaching the completion of the house.
