Palawan Bearcat at the Palawan Butterfly Garden

May 29, 2012 5 Comments

It was our first time to visit Puerto Prinsesa, Palawan a few weeks ago. There are many beautiful places to tour around and our three days vacation are not enough. On the first day, we enjoyed the swimming at the Nitivos beach resort which I also posted in my recent post. Each day of our vacation in Palawan is filled with fun, adventure and a different kind of bonding experience with our family.

Touching Palawan Bearcat

The photo above is Palawan Bearcat that we found in the Butterfly garden in Puerto Prinsesa, Palawan. Palawan Bearcat are called Arctictis binturong whitei because of its white tip furs and can only be found in Palawan. This Palawan Bearcat is named Jack. When Jack is already stressed, the animal caregiver replaces the Bearcat with its sibling named Jill. Since our family is the only visitor during that time Jack is not stress. When we touched the Palawan Bearcat, its fur is rough and longer compared to a bear and a cat but it is as sweet as a regular cat.

On the board posted near the Palawan Bearcat, I have read a touching story of this Bearcat. In the forest, their mother was shot and killed by the hunters since they were still babies and thankfully they were rescued by kind concerned people. Now they eat chicken eggs and everyday they eat lots of fruits like bananas, apple and other fruits. Our family gave some monetary donation in the donation box to help them feed the Palawan Bearcats.

There are many other animals that can be found inside the Butterfly garden. When you visit Palawan do not forget to visit this relaxing beautiful garden. Your family will surely enjoy the tour. The entrance fee is only Php25.00 and it is near in the City proper.

Ay ang cute! Oh what a sad story that little thing had!

Btw, it’s good your little one is brave enough to touch it. 😀

We’ve never been to Palawan before; that should be included in our family travel bucket list. I want to see a Palawan bearcat, too.

We’ll be in Palawan this Halloween. I’m just not sure if the Butterfly Garden is part of our itinerary.

Bearcat, reminds me of the Avatar Aang and his wonderful world where creatures like these exist. 😛 Palawan is in my list of places to visit. 😛

Aww… 🙁 What a traumatic experience that poor creature had to go through! 🙁
