Online surveys are definately the way forward for modern market research. I use a survey tool regularly and the convenience of creating, publishing and collecting data within one account is excellent.
There is still something to be said for paper surveys however. Public surveying is much simpler with paper surveys than online surveys. I would personally feel a lot more comfortable with a clip board and paper survey, rather than an expensive tablet displaying the survey.
