Are you looking for a recommended breast pump? That is the same query I have asked before when I am pregnant getting ready for breastfeeding. Before I buy a breast pump, I have read reviews about different breast pumps and even ask some of my friends for a good buy. Based on my survey, it seems that Philips AVENT Manual Pump standout and was chosen by many breastfeeding moms.
I was not able to breastfeed my first child for a longer time so this time with my second child, I did my best to breastfeed her at least 70% of breast milk. Since I am a work-at-home mom, I decided to do mix-feeding. My baby is drinking formula milk when I am working and the rest of the time, I breastfeed her. I use a breast pump to store milk when my breast are full in between breaks of my work.
Philips Avent Manual Breast Pump Review
I bought Philips AVENT ISIS Manual Pump which is said to be proven and effective. It says that it naturally imitates baby’s suckling pattern which I think is true. Since my baby is also drinking in feeding bottle, I do not have a problem when I switch her feeding through my breast.
This breast pump has a patented Let-down Massage Cushion that flexes in and out, gently massaging the area around the nipple. It is indeed true in helping stimulate the natural milk flow and will not hurt your breast. Aside from this manual breast pump, I bought a different brand electric breast pump but it is painful to use so I stopped using it. I have not tried the Philips AVENT electric Pump because I have a tight budget so I only bought the manual pump during my shopping before I give birth. The electric breast pump is expensive compared to the manual pump. Since now we have an extra budget, hubby bought me Philips AVENT electric Pump from the US and excited for its arrival next month. I will be sharing another review about it.
According to Philips AVENT, ISIS is a breakthrough in breast pump design. In a clinical study, ISIS was proven to be effective as a hospital grade electric pump. In my breastfeeding experience using Philips AVENT ISIS Manual Pump, it is very true.
My baby just turned two month old and I am very happy with this breast pump. Before I use the manual breast pump, I massage my breasts first and do warm compress using a warm towel. In this way, breast milk will flow easily when I started pumping. Using the Philips Avent manual pump, I can expressed 2-3 Oz of breastmilk in 5-10 minutes every 2- 3 hours.
After using the manual breast pump, I immediately wash it with hot water and salt so that there will be no bad smell if I let it sit for longer time before I wash it completely with soap at a later time.
When cleaning this breast pump, be sure to clean it carefully and do not forget to put back the small white valve in place.
About the price- as of 2/19/13, I saw that the Philips AVENT breastfeeding solutions set including the manual breast pump costs Php 7,999.75 at Philips AVENT breastfeeding Solutions set Lazada online shopping. For the Philips AVENT ISIS Manual Pump price, I think the price varies depending on the store.
I highly recommend Philips AVENT ISIS Manual Pump for breastfeeding moms.
Didn’t know breast pumps were this expensive.. @_@ Is it hygienic to borrow one or get a hand-me-down..?
I think it is worth to buy a brand new breast pump since you will be using it for a couple of months for your baby but if you can get a hand-me-down from a very close friend I think it is ok just make sure that the pump is still in good condition and safe for the baby (BPA free).
