Yeehaw! We are almost halfway through the school year. This will be my first posting for my child’s homeschooler’s portfolio. Both of my children are homeschooling now. It was our first year and I think we already adapted the new normal.
2nd Grade Homeschool Portfolio for Q2
Starting the 2nd Grade Homeschool Portfolio for Q2 with Arts and Crafts.
The theme of this Art drawing is all about “Taking Care of Our Nature”. I have noticed that most of the drawings of my daughter have a princess or girly characters. As you can see there is a fairy and the characters are wearing dresses and shoes. It is a simple drawing. She uses a pencil and watercolor.
Musical Arts
She loves singing. This is why every quarter we have musical arts. The video above is actually her entry to Homeschoolers’ Got Talent. The song “You Raise Me Up” is one of her favorite songs. She learns this song from his brother.
My daughter’s Physical Education or P.E. Is all about Modern Dancing.
Her modern dancing is in the tune of the popular Black Pink’s “Let’s Kill This Love”. I am actually finding the latest dance hits, but so far this is the only one we have in our Just Dance Player. She likes it!
Next is the Book Report.
The book she chose to read is “The Secret Garden“. The author of “The Secret Garden” children’s book is Frances Hodgson Burnett. We have the book that was retold by Sasha Morton with illustrations. The Protagonist in the book is Mary Lennox while my daughter finds Mrs. Medlock as the antagonist. My daughter said that it is a nice book where characters showed bravery in exploring and believing in oneself.
For Computer Literacy, we tackled Windows 10 and its Basic Operations.
I let her do a practical demo about what she knows about Windows 10 and its basic Operations. She begin with where to find the Windows Version, Windows Screen, and organizing files and folders.
Science Experiment: How Plants Absorb Water from the Roots?
This Celery Science Experiment is actually her experiment during the first quarter. We still did this experiment because our topic is plant and animal care. This way she understood how the plants absorb water from the roots. The materials needed are Celery Stalk with Leaves, a clear glass, and water with food coloring. Since we do not have food coloring, we just use the natural coloring of the Blue Ternatea Flower that we have at home. My daughter just picked some flowers. We soaked it in warm water, mix and the water turn blue. The process is so simple. We soak the Celery Stalk with leaves in half -filled water with color. She observes it in three days and noticed that on the third day, the edges of the leaves turn darker.
In Math Exercises, she is getting familiar with the multiplication table.
She is getting familiar with multiplication table through skip counting. We are taking it one at a time. Aside from that, she is taking Koobits. It is Singapore Math, K12 Math online as your child’s platform in learning Math the interactive and interesting way.
Lastly, our Home Economics 101.
There are various ways where you can enjoy homeschooling. Yes, it is not easy, but worth every moment of experience. You’ll get closer to your children. You will definitely monitor their milestones and progress. As a parent-teacher, you will learn more and value the virtue of patience.
Thank God! We are done with the second quarter portfolio. Stay tuned for my seventh grader portfolio.
