7 Do’s and Don’ts to Make Your Smart TV Last Longer

November 25, 2021 Leave a Comment

A smart TV is quite a big investment; for some, it can even be a milestone purchase. Indeed, even if smart full high definition tv price ranges are now more budget-friendly, they still cost a significant amount of money. As such, it’s only practical to take good care of it and try to maintain its good quality for as long as possible.

Do’s and Don’ts to Make Your Smart TV Last Longer

Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to extend the lifespan of your smart TV. Here are some essential tips to keep in mind:

7 Do’s and Don’ts to Make Your Smart TV Last Longer

Turn It Off

The screen of your smart TV is composed of more than 1,000 LED bulbs and they have a life cycle of about 65,000 hours. This might seem like a long time, but you can quickly go through all those hours if your TV is on 24/7. Thus, to prevent this from happening, make sure to turn off your TV if you’re not using it.

Avoid running the TV in the background as well just for ambient noise; if you want to listen to something while doing chores, it may be better to play music instead or listen to a podcast. Of course, turning off the TV when not in use not only prolongs its life; it also helps you save money on your electricity bills.

Clean It Up

Letting dirt and dust accumulate on your TV can affect its performance. In particular, it can block the vents in the back and prevent heat dissipation. Thus, you need to regularly clean the back of your smart TV if you want it to run smoothly for years to come.

Don’t forget to clean the screen as well to remove layers of dust and smudges. Doing this will ensure a quality viewing experience. Remember to use only a soft, clean cloth to clean the screen to prevent scratches. If there are any stubborn marks (say, a toddler’s oily fingerprint) dampen the cloth with a bit of water.

Keep It in a Well-Ventilated Space

As previously mentioned, your smart TV has vents that let out heat. If these vents are blocked and the air can’t circulate, the temperature inside the TV can rise and fry the circuits. As such, it’s best to situate your TV in a well-ventilated area. Allocate a few inches of space between the wall and the TV as well to promote good airflow.

It’s also ideal to put your TV in a room with low humidity, so the moisture can’t get into the inner parts and cause corrosion.

Use a Voltage Regulator and/or Surge Protector

Voltage spikes, which happen when the electricity suddenly gets cut off and then gets back only a moment later, can be harmful to appliances. You should also be wary of voltage fluctuations during thunderstorms. To protect your TV and other appliances, it’s a good idea to buy a voltage regulator. This gadget helps stabilize incoming AC voltage, resulting in more reliable performance of your electronics.

For enhanced protection against voltage spikes, you can also get a surge protector. It can block extremely high voltage spikes in the power line, thus keeping sensitive electronic components safe.

Adjust the Brightness

Many TVs on display in appliance stores have the brightness turned up to the highest settings. This is so that you can clearly see the details on the screen, even under the harsh glare of the overhead lights. At home, however, there’s no need for maximum brightness. This can cause eye strain, not to mention burn out the LEDs much faster.

For the best viewing experience at home, you can select the TV’s preset brightness settings. Usually, this is labeled “Home” or something similar. You can also adjust the settings on your own, so you can find the one that matches the lighting conditions at home.

Wall-Mount It Carefully

Wall-mounting your smart TV allows you to save a lot of space. However, you need to be careful about it. Again, you need to leave enough space between the back of the TV and the wall so that the air can flow properly. You also need to find a structurally sound part of the wall so that it has a low risk of falling. Of course, use high-quality mounting brackets to further ensure the stability of your TV.

Keep It Upright

Last but not least, if you’re going to move or store your smart TV—such as when you’re transporting it or simply installing it in another room—make sure to keep it upright. That’s because smart TVs are designed so that the weight is evenly distributed when they’re standing up. If you lay the TV down, then you will cause an imbalance and gravity can cause certain parts to break.

With these straightforward maintenance tips, you can keep your smart TV in good shape for a long time. Not only will you be able to maximize your investment, but you’ll also be able to enjoy picture-perfect shows, movies, and video games!
