Happy New Year! Welcome to the year of the Water Dragon. My family and I celebrated in welcoming the new year at home. This year we want the preparation a little lighter compared to last year that is why most of our food were ordered and simple to prepare. At exactly 12AM of the new year, my family and I welcome the year with hope, happiness, love and we are always thankful for another beautiful year that has passed (2011). We did some Chinese traditions that were said to bring good luck to make the new year very round. Some of these superstitious beliefs are preparing 13 fruits on the table (but it could also be 7), hanging cotton and 12 pieces of grapes at the door, preparing sticky sweet foods like Biko, Sapin sapin,etc.

It was my Dade’s birthday for every new year that is why we always prepare good foods for double celebration. We wanted to invite guest but we are out of manpower at home. I mean there are no one to manage the guest like reheating the foods, fixing the plates and washing the dishes. Currently, we do not have a helper and my parents just wanted to take a rest on the first day of the year. We share and gave some foods to our neighbors. In the afternoon, my family and I attended mass to give thanks and praises.
