In my childhood days, I am so thankful that I experience different games and toys. Outdoor games are healthy ways for a child to enjoy with their playmates. Toys such as ball, ping pong set, barbie, car, marble, Yoyo and lego are some of the popular toys during that time. Even today most of these toys are still pop because of its use and benefit to a child.
Some of popular Filipino outdoor games are Tumbang preso, Siato, Luksong baka, Chinese garter, Piko, and many more to mention. It requires physical strength, strategy and coordination. Nowadays I have noticed that only few children are playing outdoor games. They are now more active in playing computer games. Although there is an advantage of being a computer savvy when they are exposed to computer games there is also a disadvantage of getting addiction to computer games that might cause problem with their studies.
Skillful games and toys such as board games and yoyo can be played alone. There are hundred tricks that a child can learn in yo-yoing. They can buy cheap yo yo and choose for the type of materials such as wood, plastic and metal but I think a yoyo made up of wood has a nice feel and timeless look.
Whatever games and toys that your child choose, it is best for parents to give them guidance and discipline so that they can make the most of child’s play.
