Green plants for home, office and dormitory

Plants are one of the most important things in our life, yet it is often neglected by human as we are diversifying now with the modernity of the society. People don’t need to be a plant-lover or to be knowledgeable about plants to have one at home, office, or let’s say the second home of college students, the dormitories. Do you know any green plants for home, office, and dormitory?

Green plants for home

Pachira Aquatica is a plant known to be the money tree where its trademark is a braided trunk. Pachira needs sunlight, although during summer the leaves may get sunburned. Its popularity as being the money tree is first declared on Japan then later spread throughout East Asia. Pachira can be seen in two ways: First is there are several plants planted in a pot to be a braided plant – they are meant to be grown in pots to be an indoor plant. The second is through landscape use wherein there is only one plant per pot and it will grow as big as it is and produce beautiful flowers. Trees are cultivated for its edible nuts, which grow in a very large woody pod that tasted like peanuts.

Euanthe Sanderiana or commonly known as “Waling Waling”, the Queen of Philippine Flowers is an orchid family. It is prevalent in the provinces of Davao, Cotabato, and Zamboanga and that they grow monopodial which means it grows upward with a single main stem or axis that produces flowers and leaves. It grows up to one meter tall. It is best grown when hanged.

Green plants for home or office

Dracaena sanderiana which is also called the Lucky Bamboo is best for indirect sunlight and only needs a little watering, which should be changed every week. When the leaves turn yellow, it only means there is direct sunlight and the water used is fluoridated or chlorinated which comes from tap water so it is highly recommended to use bottled waters.

Green plants for Dormitory

 

Spathiphyllum or also called the Peace Lilies is recommended for dormitories as it cleans indoor air. It lives best in shade but a little sunlight. The soil is best to leave with a little moist and that it is watered once a week.

Some of these plants can be considered as green plants for green buildings. Basically, they are living things but does not cry like babies, does not whine like toddlers, and does not stray around like teenagers, so there’s no need to complain about taking good care of plants. How long does it take to give them enough sunlight and enough water to quench their thirst? It is not as disturbing as we think.
