What do you miss during your college days? I’m sure you missed the laughter with your friends. There are countless moments you’ve cherished. The hard work and patience that you’ve been through is now part of the product of who you are. This Wireless Vacuum Cleaner robotics Project post is actually a remarkable flashback to me. One of the successful robotics projects we did during our college days.
The photo above is the Autonomous Wireless Vacuum Cleaner, a PC-based wireless vacuum cleaner robotics project that we did way back year 2003. Sorry the photo’s dimension was small and not clear (having limited resources that time). We are a team of five students (all ladies) who created this project. It was more than 12 years ago when we presented this project to our professors at the City College of Manila, presently known us UDM(Unibersidad ng Maynila).
Looking back, we have limited resources for the robotics project during those times compared to our generation now. We are still grateful that we’ve met helpful people along the way. Through team work, it led our prototype into a successful design project.
How an autonomous Wireless Vacuum Cleaner Robotics Project work?
The autonomous wireless PC controlled robot trundles across the floor anywhere you want it on its three wheels, and under control of your PC thru radio waves it can move forward or backward, turns right or left.
In autonomous mode, it has an artificial intelligence that detects obstacles and avoid them while when it is in remote PC control, the video on-board tells you where it is and what it is doing. Your desktop PC or notebook computers via the printer port control the autonomous wireless vaccum cleaner robot.
I recall that we’ve finished this project after a year. First, we started with an idea or plan. We did team brainstorming. Submitted our design project for robotics to our prof. We waited for the approval from our professor then started designing until we come up with the prototype.
The most important materials or parts needed in robotics cannot be bought here in the Philippines during those times. We are really thankful that someone helped us with the project and ordered the parts abroad. Some materials like the circuit board, housing box, PCB, screw, socket, power plug, connectors, and other materials were bought from Alexan, the popular and largest shop where you can buy extensive lines of electronic components, production tools, test instruments, universal programmers, and equipment from leading manufacturers. Students this new generation are so lucky that there are wide ranges of robotics kit available in the market today.
For the programming of the wireless vacuum cleaner robotics project, we’ve set for Turbo pascal and GW basic. For the user interface program, we used Visual basic programming. I actually forgot the detailed programming that we did here. It was a mixture of our ideas and efforts. But, I will never forget the best times that I had with my wonderful team. I am grateful that God surrounded me with classmates that are great influence. They became my close friends that until now sometimes we see each other.
