One night for Halloween Party

We’re waiting for the Trick or Treat day when we see decors like Ghosts, Skeleton, skull, bones, cemetery, moon, broom, black cats, candies and chocolates, spiders, web, vampires, bats, Dracula & scary costumes. Kids are excited to show their scary looks in “Halloween Costume Party”.  No Halloween celebration is complete without ghost stories. During the party they have tomb decors, kids will sometimes gather around the fake graves and the party host will tell the most teeth-chattering tales by candlelight. It’s really fun to join in Halloween Party! Did you know the history of Halloween?

ANCIENT ORIGINS OF HALLOWEEN

Well, let’s find out the Halloween origins, according to the European history, Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in). The Celts (Gods of Ireland, Scotland, Wales & Gaul. Tribes with remarkable staying power), who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1.

How Halloween Invade the World?

When Halloween comes to America in the second half of the nineteenth century, America was flooded with new immigrants. These new immigrants, especially the millions of Irish fleeing Ireland’s potato famine of 1846, helped to popularize the celebration of Halloween nationally.

We, Filipinos don’t really celebrate Halloween, not in the way Americans do. We won’t see monster-themed parades, pumpkin decorations or trick-or-treating is not required. On the eve of October 31, people are preparing for the next days event which is commonly known as All Saints Day. November 1 & 2 is the day of the Saints or the day to remember the souls. This is also the time when the cemetery and the memorial parks are jam packed with people visiting the grave of our loved ones who passed away. Expect the memorial parks full of busy people selling candles and flowers, walking and cleaning the tomb and repaint the grave benches.

For the All Souls Day in the Philippines, some of us are spending overnight in the cemetery. Some pack foods to eat and something to offer at the tomb. Traditionally,we serve kakanin or native delicacies during the festival, such as suman, puto, palitaw, and ginataang bilo-bilo. The celebration will not be complete without the flowers as an offering at the tomb and also as a way of showing respect too. Just remember, whatever tradition,we practice, it does not hurt to pay respect to your dearly departed by saying a prayer or by honoring the life they lived when they were still alive.

What’s Your Halloween Story?

We may not have the loudest or more colorful version of Halloween, but we still manage to enjoy it in a way we can. Not everyone has the gift of Third eye to see or to feel the spirits around us. So if you have stories of your own about Halloween, get them going in the comments!

Happy Halloween!

I love how easy it is to choose a costume. My boys like to make their own and that requires several shopping trips.

This is the first year that my son is not dressing up for Halloween because he is too old. I am really sad because kids costumes are so FUN, and I am going to miss it.

SM Toy Kingdom has an amazing selection of Halloween costumes! Halloween is getting more popular here in Spain but it has a long way to go. My daughter wants to be cat this year 😀
