The Apartment TV Winners – Design Your Destiny Season 3

Meet the Winner of Design Your Destiny – The Apartment TV season 3. Congratulations to team Deankie and Tiara of the teamPhilippines. I am so proud and happy for both of you being my fellow Filipino citizen who’ve been very talented and excellent in the competition with their exceptionally unique and  brilliant design.

 

In the final week, the contestants completed their final task – to design a new apartment from scratch in 72 hours! They were asked to incorporate the Dulux 2014 colour of the year, Teal, into their designs. Deankie and Tiara created a notable piece in their apartment with their light filtering installation on the ceiling made from potato sacks , incorporating eco design elements into their apartment.

I am thankful that I’ve got a chance to ask several questions for them and they humbly give their cool answers that are worth-sharing for my readers.

 

• Who and what are your inspirations in making it in the finale?
  

Deankie: I am personally inspired by my family. Our house is was due for foreclosure, winning The Apartment has definitely save us. I am also taking this chance for a good jump-start for in my career as an interior designer.

Tiara: My parents, being away from home for months made me miss them a lot. Also, my career as a designer. I really want to pursue what I have started on the show and become successful.

• How did you come up with the idea of installing light filtering on the ceiling made from potato sacks , incorporating eco design elements into your apartment?

Deankie: Tiara & I thought a lot about bringing back the strong features we had done in past challenges. We both also wanted to do something eco and organic looking that would unify both the dining and the living area. That is what lead me to using recycled potato sacks and have its layout bursting subtly from one corner, throughout the rest of the space. Then Tiara laid out the lights to have that warm look, taking advantage of the wavy forms which played so well with the sacks’ texture.

Tiara: Deankie firstly thought of using the potato sacks for the ceiling. I then enhanced the complete look through the use of lighting.

Deankie: For me it was the ceiling design. We knew it would really look great if done properly, but we were torn between the time pressure and the ambitious design.

Tiara: To get the potato sacks on the ceiling was kinda hard. Although we had the Abangs (kuya) helped us to put it up, it was still quite tricky. Putting it one by one on swirls gave us pains around arms and back.

• What do you think is your winning style or design that makes your team stand-out?
  

Deankie: I believe what makes us stand out is the fact that we try to be innovative and in every design we’ve done, it is always inspired. We love taking risks and go way out of the box, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. Perhaps that’s why we always surprise them!

Tiara: They call us the innovative team, or the working ants. This is because we create things that are new to the public’s eye. It may be weird, but it is still possible!

Deankie: The competition is for amateur designers, given the chance to win a prize of a lifetime. We were all chosen for a reason, personality is one big factor. That indeed will give the contestants a chance to show their personalities through interior design. My tip would be to take risks and never stop learning, that’ll make you become better and better. I’ve learned so much from the show, aside from the importance of being a team player, I have learned how to express art in interior design without holding anything back, taking risks.

Tiara: I learnt so many things while participating in the show especially PAINTING! I think Igained a lot of muscles and extra credits because of painting haha!  I think  the thing that made us stay in the competition  was we kept our prayers constantly and our relationship with God has grown even deeper.

• What are your plans after winning the grand prize in The Apartment?

Deankie: Tiara & I have plans already! I would like to secure a home for my family, and study Interior design again and hopefully be able to develop a design firm in the future. I know Tiara would also love to go back to school and study lighting design.:)

Tiara: Find a job hahahaha!
