Mommy Mundo, the country’s go-to resource for active, modern moms hosted the third MOMS ON THE FLOOR last October 13, 2012 at The Loft, Manansala Tower, Rockwell Center. I am so thankful that I was able to attend the said event that started at 10AM for portion 1 – prenatal yin yoga offered by Dona Esteban, labor and breathing exercises by Rome Kanapi for pregnant moms. Moms on the Floor is a one-day floor-based learning and bonding event for the whole family. Portion 2 is infant massage by Rome Kanapi, mom and baby exercises by Gymboree for moms with infants and YogaKids by Michelle Aventajado and Zumba fun by Slimmers World for moms with kids 1 to 6 years old.
Since I am pregnant, I was there at portion 1 where I participated in the prenatal yin yoga, and labor and breathing exercises. Yin Yoga is a calming healing practice that allows the body to go into deep state of relaxation so that detoxification, repair, and restoration can happen. Prenatal yoga pose like Butterfly create space for the growing belly and help to open the hips. For labor and breathing exercises, Rome Kanapi shared some ways and practice of different relaxation exercises such as squat, slow dance and the “I am relax” breathing exercise. In portion 1 of the event, certain topics were also tackled such as the important things to do before/ during the delivery period, the importance of vaccines and cordlife cord Philippines were introduced. (I will be posting more detailed info about vaccines in a separate post)
Portion 2 covers infant massage, yoga for kids and for moms. It is an affair for the whole family.
During the event, Mommy Mundo also released a new page in it’s website called Best Shot at Life.
For many years now, Mommy Mundo has been advocating child vaccination. Since 2010 they have partnered with GlaxoSmithKline in promoting free vaccination programs. To deepen that commitment, Mommy Mundo has designated a page in their website for this cause.
The page aptly entitled Best Shot at Life offers information on how parents can ensure the wellness of their kids through vaccination and healthy living. It also has disease prevention tools such as a guide on diseases, an immunization schedule calculator and a clinic finder. In addition, you can also ask “Tita Doc” for vaccination-related questions.
Janice Crisostomo-Villanueva, the founder of Mommy Mundo shares “As a mother, we all have our children’s best interests in mind- their psychological and emotional development, spiritual growth, and most specially, their physical wellbeing and health. When I was a first time mom 16 years ago, it was just automatic that I would bring my then infant Coby to the pedia for the required shots. But now more and more, with the many diseases out there, I feel that vaccinating our children is simply the responsible thing to do, because it is really important to give our kids ample protection as they grow and go out into the world.”
“With Mommy Mundo, as you know, we have many advocacies we are passionate about- healthy pregnancy, breastfeeding, mompreneurship, active parenting- and part of our active parenting advocacy is our passion to promote vaccination awareness to our community of moms and moms to be. We are so thankful to be supported by GSK in our advocacies and it was such a blessing for this project to have gotten support from GSK- our vaccination portal that will be the source of information for the general public on news on vaccination, diseases information.” adds the founder.

I would have wanted to attend this event with my son, too, but he’s currently nursing a hip problem, so we couldn’t join the Zumba. Sigh!

This is the kind of event that I would love to attend. 🙂
It’s too bad that I was not fully aware of these exercises back when I was pregnant, then maybe I would have had a better chance of delivering my kids via normal delivery as opposed to a C-section. 😛
