I created this post for my readers who are requesting photos of my African Talisay Tree. Last 2017, I blogged about Tree Planting African Talisay where I posted small seedling of this tree planted in our front yard.

When we moved in last 2016 to our new home, we do not have any trees or plants. It is really hot and no shade most especially during summer. There is a big adjustment for us living here in Cavite.

We decided to plant several trees such as Pine Tree, Atis, Green Macopa, and this African Talisay given by our friendly neighbor. It was a tiny seedling planted about three meters away from the main house.

African Talisay is a sturdy tree that provides good sunshade and protects the house from strong wind and rain. Although there are times when the caterpillar grows in the nearby trees, this tree has a low tendency for caterpillars to live. Maybe it is because its leaves are small and scattered throughout its stems.

This tree is planted facing the morning sun. We water it daily in the morning and twice during the summer. It grows fast and as you can see in the photo, the African Talisay is as tall as the second storey house already. It could grow up to 20 meters high.

How do you maintain and grow African Talisay?

As the tree grows, the branches broadens. We make sure to it that the leaves will not touch the house walls. As a rule of thumb, you can determine its roots by how wide or big the branches are. So, to avoid invasive roots, we always trim the branches to our preferred size, making sure the tree branches will not contact to the house.

Moreover, the wonderful benefits of having an African Talisay in your front yard or garden is that it is relaxing. It gives of fresh air and a beautiful view when you look at the window. It filters dust, sunrays, strong wind and rain. It provides a little privacy as it covers part of our front window at home. The view is relaxing and calming as well by the window.

As a result of planting African Talisay, after five years our home has a good sunshade, has a natural air flowing for good ventilation, and a balance of nature. You’ll see and hear different birds chirping at times giving you a sense of relaxation and calmness.
