Who wants bigger savings in paying electric bills? Of course, we want! My husband and I have been finding ways to lower our power consumption at home. We love technology and there are great advantages with the way it evolves in our modern world. I’ll share to you what we discovered in using Energy Saving Home Appliances to Lower Electric Bill.
The innovation of technology with energy saving has a big impact to lessen the power usage. Switching to energy saving devices and home appliances is an effective way to do that. One should know the Energy Efficient appliance before buying it. Some say that purchasing new appliance when you still have a working one is costly. I was actually hesitant to replace some of our not so energy efficient appliance because they are still in good condition. My husband is firm that we have to replace our existing home appliances not only to lessen the power utility bills but also to adapt the modern technology.
At home, we replace most of our home appliances including the light bulbs. The results are surprisingly wonderful!
Energy Saving Home Appliances to Lower Electric Bill
- After reading reviews, comparing product specification, and asking different salesman about the feedbacks of the best refrigerator, we end up in choosing between Electrolux Adaptive Defrost system and Panasonic Energy Saving Inverter technology. Both have almost the same energy saving system. What we choose is the refrigerator that we want as a whole. It is not only having the energy saving system but we consider the other specification, features, and the budget.
We chose Electrolux model ETE3500SE. This Electrolux refrigerator is a 12 cu. ft. 2-Door NutriFresh™ Refrigerator. The Adaptive Defrost system conserves energy as the defrost heater is turned on only when necessary. This means fewer defrost cycles that results to energy savings and improved food preservation. The freezer Defrost process is automatic or frost-free. Aside from that we like the stainless main body color. The price of this Electrolux model ETE3500SE Frost-free refrigerator when we bought it last year April 2014 is P27,000 (approximately $613)

Energy saving tips for refrigerator:
- Choose a refrigerator with a high Energy Efficiency Factor (EEF).
- A refrigerator with high EEF consumes less electricity as compared with one having a lower EEF.
- Defrost refs and freezers regularly.
- More than ¼ inch ice build-up of frost puts up an extra load on the compressor motor.
- Make sure that the condenser coil is clean and working properly.
- Check refrigerator if it is not losing its cool because of a damaged gasket.
- Choose a refrigerator with adaptive system or Inverter technology. Mostly these are frost-free refrigerators.
Using LED lights is another energy efficient electrical lighting that is good to use to lower electric bill. I blogged about it at Which is more energy efficient LED lights or CFL?
Stay tuned for the next feature on Energy Saving Home Appliances to Lower Electric Bill.
I think its a good idea to invest in energy saving home appliances because it will definitely help in lowering the electric bill. Same with changing regular light bulbs to LEDs 🙂
Definitely, next we plan to invest in replacing our aircon to inverter unit.
Thank you for the tips Mommy Jem! Totally useful and I also dream to buy a refrigerator that is energy saving. 🙂
Hi Mamanee, It’s my pleasure to share useful tips to every family.
It’s true, getting an energy efficient ref lowers the electric bill a lot.
I started shifting all my lights from CFL to LED na to save money and energy. Thanks for the tips!

Will definitely consider these tips when we have to buy a new ref. Thanks for sharing!
We’re planning to change ref anytime soon. Will surely add this on my list since it is energy-efficient. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I found out a lot of WAHMs that I know have electric bills that are waaaay lower than ours! Pang commercial level ang bill namin because of our old appliances. I told my husband that when we decide to move out of the family house, we’ll have to invest on inverter type appliances.
I think it’s important to know the right appliances to use in order to save more. Like for aircons, inverters are better than the usual ones. Same goes for TV sets, flat screen LED TVs are the way to go.
Anything that would save us from paying high electricity bill, we (try) to invest. Thanks for sharing, I shall show this to my husband.:)
Thank you for sharing your saving tips. Same here the next time we will aircon, I’ll go for inverted type.
Energy saving appliances are sound investments. And also good for our environment. Although these appliances don’t come cheap at this time, we should really push this campaign for greener homes.
Same here we are changing our appliances for energy saving, next year planning to have a split type aircon with inverter 🙂
Hi Mommy Anna, That is also our plan to change the aircon to split-type inverter.
Our fridge doesn’t need replacing just yet but will definitely take these into consideration when the time comes.
Hello!
Do you remember what the EEF for this refrigerator is? I have the same model and am wondering how energy efficient this is.
Thanks
