What to do for a successful toddler’s potty training?

March 5, 2012 Leave a Comment

This post is a follow-up of toddler’s potty training made easy that I shared last year. My little boy is now three years and five months old. When I found the right timing and way for my toddler’s the potty training that I posted last year, I am so glad that it went through the days, weeks and now my son is very comfortable in using his potty when he wants to poo (bowel movement) and pee (urinate). Now, he only use diaper when we go out of the house to mall, church and attend events. At night, I was able to train him to urinate on the potty before sleeping so that when we wake up there is no mess. Because of the good potty training, I had the extra savings from buying bulk diapers to very few pieces in every shopping.

What to do for a successful toddler’s potty training?

  • Prepare a potty that is toddler-friendly. A toddler-friendly potty depends on the likes of your toddler. For example, if he likes Thomas and friends then you can buy a potty that has the Thomas and friends design or you can choose animal designs with loving and angelic features so that every time the toddler sits on the potty, he will be not be afraid.
  • When your toddler is about to use the potty, get his favorite toy or book. For toys, try to make an interesting story related to his/her favorite toy so that he/she can be entertain while sitting on the potty. If the toddler loves book, open the book and read the story for him.
  • When your child wants to poo on the potty, help him ease with the poo. Show him some gesture or sounds how to poo.
  • Touching the tummy down will make him comfortable on the potty.
The things that I have shared above about toddler’s potty training were based from my real experience. I do a follow-up post because one of my avid reader requested it. Currently I am facing a different issue with my little boy and that will be a big challenge for me. I will share it on my upcoming post. Stay tuned Super moms! 🙂
