Home Expansion Completed: House Design Ideas

Do you still remember my home extension project? What are my house design ideas? Having a home that you can call your own is a dream for every family. Acquiring a home in the Philippines is not that easy. You need a fund to buy a house and lot and several requirements to submit for processing. My family is grateful for accomplishing our dream home. See the before photo and the after photo of our home.

Obviously, buying a house is not just about investing in a property. You are also investing time as you go through the process. The photo above is the before photo of our exterior house design prior to our home expansion project. You may view my post about Home Extension Project 2022 . This is the biggest and the most expensive project we did to our home. It took us years to save money and plan for this huge development.

Just last year summer of 2021, our home improvement was My Modern Industrial Kitchen Makeover. I am always thankful for completing these projects. Imagine we reside in this home since 2016. We live a simple life. That means that we only buy necessary or important things. We do not spend money on things that are not worth to keep. It could only pile up as a waste in the garage.

Growing up with my traditional slightly strict parents, I learned a lot from them. My parents are not rich when it comes to monetary. I can say that my parents are rich in spirit. They are kind and helpful to people. In our ancestral home where I grew up, you can find premium items.

My father is a studious person who used to work abroad during my early childhood years. Before working abroad, he also worked at the National Media Production Center at the Office of the President. Knowing him as a talented artist, he has a good taste and judgement about things. No wonder he keeps beautiful and functional pieces of home accessories, furniture, and household items. Mother loves things that give you good vibes and comfort.

Moreover, being a parent now, gives me the control to all my goals. It includes likes, and decides to make in life most especially at home with my husband. I always recall from the pre-marriage seminar that at home there is only one king and queen. A husband as the king and the wife as the queen. Your home is like a castle to protect together with your family. God as the center of your family.

Seeing myself as a homemaker, just like my parents, I love pieces that give you good vibes, comfort, and functional. I remember my father says “timeless” with one of his premium collections. It is a pair of weighted tall candle holder with engraved design. It is made up of brass.

According to my mom, only one was left because the other was lost or maybe stolen. Aside from a unique candle holder, my father has several wall art and paintings.

House Design Ideas

Below is the after photo of our beautiful home design. It is a collaboration house design ideas of my husband, me and our contractor – Olivas Builders. The home expansion was reinforced or retrofitted to the main house. There are additional seven posts that support the extension to the main house for safety and durability. Big thanks to my brother who suggested the hallway passage from the main house to the expansion. I’ll post the photo soon.

The house design is more about modern, transitional design. You’ll find modern while having transitional touch. It feels good to look back at beautiful designs we had from different times. It is important to set a budget so that you could limit the fund to avoid overspending.

Near the home expansion is the Araucaria Tree or the Pine Tree as they say. It is one of a beautiful tree for front yard or side fence that I usually see in Tagaytay.  The original painting of our main house is orange hues. We retain the shade in the lining and pair it with wood or yellow slate natural stone.

The installation of the natural stone design was the suggestion of my brother-in-law. The advantage is that it beautifies the wall. It is less maintenance compared to the traditional wall painting that needs to be repainted through time. To protect the stone from having molds, we applied sealant for the natural stone. As the stone is exposed to weathering, it enhances its texture and color.

Next are the windows. I actually prefer windows with wood accent. Unfortunately, we change our preference. It would take for a couple of weeks for the preparation of the wood accent. We compare aluminum windows versus the PVC windows. We end up with aluminum windows which is more durable through time. Also, we are thankful for the trustworthy installer of aluminum windows and glass – ARL Exec Enterprise.

Because we like an energy saving house, we surround the house with windows. On the side facing the tree is a four-panel glass sliding door. There are awning windows on the stairs. The glass part of the wall close to the ceiling allows natural light to pass through the room. There are sliding windows and slide-up windows.

In addition, the lighting design serves and enhances certain architectural elements. We installed different kinds of lighting. There are wall lamps, down lights, and post lamp. It truly accentuates the exterior design mostly the natural stone texture.

There are more to mention about the house expansion. It is a three-story house with roof deck and balconies. I love saving memories and will blog more about it soon.
